What is Body Combat?

Our fun, non-contact Body Combat classes in Morley, Baldivis and Southern River are designed to help you lose weight and tone your form. They provide an action packed cardio workout using a variety of self defence techniques such as kicking, jabbing and punching, all in a totally non-contact environment.

Body Combat will make you fit, fast and strong in no time, working your legs, toning your arms, back and shoulders and providing excellent core training,

What it’s based on

The Body Combat program incorporates a range of martial arts moves and draws inspiration from disciplines such as Karate, Boxing, Taekwondo, Kung Fu, Tai Chi and Muay Thai.

The Body Combat workout itself is based on Cardio Peak Training, a sports science practice that involves maintaining your heart rate at an aerobic training base (60 – 80% of your maximum heart rate) and interspersing this with short periods of high intensity activity to increase your heart rate to between 85 and 90%; a technique which helps to build cardio endurance.

This technique is also an excellent fat burning exercise and you can expect to burn an average of 740 to 750 calories in a 60-minute Body Combat session.

What it involves

While our Body Combat classes in Perth use martial arts techniques, you don’t have to be a martial arts expert to take part. You don’t even have to be super fit, as you can start slowly with your training, by just doing the first few tracks of the program until you’ve built up some body strength and endurance and then increasing the length and intensity of your sessions as your instructor thinks fit.

Class lengths vary from 30 to 45 to 60 minutes and for best results, we recommend that you do Body Combat at least twice a week and combine it with some other forms of weight and flexibility training.

No special equipment is required to take part, but we suggest you wear comfortable loose-fitting clothing so your movements will not be restricted. Also bring a towel, because we intend to make you sweat!

The benefits of Body Combat

Body Combat is a win-win workout for every part of your body and offers a range of benefits including;

  • Low impact exercise – Body Combat provides a high intensity workout without the risk of injury posed by a comparable aerobic exercise such as running.
  • Great for weight loss – while the number of calories you burn will depend on your height, weight and overall fitness, doing Body Combat burns more calories than most other cardio activities and is an excellent fat blaster exercise.
  • Tones muscles – Body Combat makes you use a variety of different muscle groups in both your upper and lower body, which gives you a full body workout that helps to tone and define muscles.
  • Improves agility and reflexes – because Body Combat forces you to quickly and repeatedly change your posture and position, it sharpens your mental and physical reflexes and improves your body’s reaction time.
  • Relieves stress and builds self esteem – channelling your negative emotions into such intense activity can help to reduce everyday stress levels and increase your self confidence and self esteem.

Body Combat also helps to improve bone density and heart and lung function, so if you think Les Mills Body Combat classes might be something you’d enjoy and could benefit from, talk to us today at Bailey Fitness.
