What is Cxworx?

Cxworx is a dynamic core training workout that uses your own body weight, along with resistance tubing and weights, to tighten and tone your midsection.

It focuses on improving the fitness of your abdominals, back, glutes, obliques and slings, targeting every area of your trunk from mid-thigh to shoulders. We offer CXWORX in Morley, Baldivis and Southern River.

What it’s based on

The name is actually Les Mills Cxworx, as Les Mills International in New Zealand are the program’s creators. One of their newer programs, Cxworx is growing rapidly in popularity and is often used by gyms in conjunction with other Les Mills programs to provide their members with a comprehensive full body workout.

What it involves

A 30 minute workout, Cxworx is comprised of six different tracks, each targeting a different part of your core. These tracks are:

  1. Warm-Up
  2. Core Strength 1
  3. Standing Strength 1
  4. Standing Strength 2
  5. Core Strength 2
  6. Core strength 3

What this means in layman’s terms is that you will typically start with a mat warm-up to activate the muscles, including crunches and leg raisers to work both upper and lower abs.

Then you’ll move on to leg extensions and plank holds followed by a range of twists, lunges and compound exercises using your resistance tube, with more than one muscle always being targeted for a more effective workout.

Other movements you’re likely to cover will include cross-crawls, hip bridges, leg extensions, hovers, power skaters, wood-chops, rows, mountain climbers and squats. But don’t fret if you don’t know what they are, as your instructor will explain them to you as you go.

Choreographed to music, the workout doesn’t seem to take any time at all and you’ll end the session feeling like your core is already physically stronger.

To take part in a Cxworx class, you’ll need a mat (which you can bring yourself), along with a resistance tube and a weight plate (for more advanced exercises), both of which can usually be supplied by your gym.
