What is MetaPWR?

MetaPWR (MetaPower) is a 30 minute circuit class that is designed to develop strength and improve bone density through the use of specially selected equipment and to tone muscle, increase metabolic rate and burn fat through plyometric and non-plyometric bodyweight exercises. We offer MetaPWR workouts in Morley, Baldivis, and Southern River.

What it’s based on

MetaPWR is a program that was developed from Metafit, which combines High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) with bodyweight exercises to develop strength, agility and cardiovascular efficiency.

It is a form of circuit training (circular training involving exercises that engage different muscle groups) with the addition of the workout intervals employed in HIIT (high intensity bursts interspersed with recovery periods), which effectively means you can continue to train for longer without having to rest.

What it involves

A typical MetaPWR workout would begin with a warm up period, followed by a series of HIIT high intensity and recovery intervals involving various exercises such as squats, push-ups, planks and burpees.

Equipment used would also typically include items such as;

  • Battle ropes (or battling ropes) – a great cardio workout tool and a must-have for packing on lean mass, they work both of your arms, your back, you chest, your legs and your core.
  • Kettlebells – used for increasing grip strength and building strength and endurance in the lower back, legs and shoulders using full body exercises such as the swing, snatch and clean and jerk.
  • Slam balls (medicine balls) – provide resistance and additional weight during cardio and muscle-toning exercises.
  • Power bags – soft, weighted bags used as a substitute for medicine balls or kettlebells to perform exercises focusing on strength, power, core stability and rotational movements.
  • Plyo boxes – traditional tool for Plyometrics training to improve, strength, power and endurance.
  • Sleds – a great strength training and cardio tool suitable for working legs, core, back and shoulders.

The sessions are fast moving and exhausting, designed to improve strength, burn calories and gain more power. Then, once the workout is over, the Excess Post-Exercise Oxygen Consumption (EPOC) principle kicks in, ensuring that you’ll continue to burn calories for up to 24 hours longer.
